COPPERclean™, developed by La Farga Tub, ensures that the copper pipe has the capacity to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria* in just two hours, as well as inhibiting the growth of virus and fungi, reducing the possibilities of infection and acting permanently as efficient material in the fight against pathogenic agents.

DID YOU KNOW THAT COPPER …?
Eliminates and avoids the growth of a large variety of bacteria and fungi.
Is impermeable to external agents that can contaminate the water in the conduits.
Is essential for life and a health protector.
It is the only metal certified by the EPA as an antimicrobial agent.
Is resistant to any type of disinfection process, such as chlorination and thermal shock of water installations.
Acts as a protective agent against the proliferation of Legionnaire’s disease in water installations.

Copper pipe as prevention material
Despite leaving the traces marked, copper tube remain free of bacteria*.
On any surface, bacteria can reproduce by up to one billion in 24 hours, which is why we recommend copper as prevention material.
80% of infections are spread via the hands, so that simple measures such as washing hands, keeping the surfaces we touch clean or having copper installations where water flows, are measures that help our health. To do this, Copper Clean copper pipes provide something new compared to plastic or stainless steel materials: their surfaces have the capacity to inhibit viruses, bacteria* and fungi and act as preventive material in the spreading of diseases in all spheres: in the home, the school, at work, in nurseries, restaurants, etc.

Copper, the only metal certified by the EPA as an antimicrobial agent
Copper is the first solid material admitted into the register of the EPA Environmental Protection Agency of the United States as an antimicrobial agent. In this way it is recognised that copper has the capacity to eliminate bacteria¹ related to potentially fatal microbial infections, among which feature the virus of Type-A influenza (H1N1)². No other material has been certified with this characteristic. The bacteria* registered with the EPA are:
|
| |
|
|
Staphylococcus
aureus
Enterobacter
aerogenes
Escherichia
coli O157:H7
Pseudomonas
aeruginosa
Methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Moreover, according to scientific literature, copper also has an inhibiting effect on fungi and other types of micro-organisms.
Fungi: Copper deactivates and avoids the growth of a large variety of pathogenic agents: actinomucor elegans, aspergillus niger, penicillium chrysogenum, rhizopus niveus...
Bacteria*: campylobacter jejuni, proteus, e. coli, staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus Group D, pseudonomas aeuruginosa, bacterium linens, bacillus megaterium, bacillus subtilis, brevibacterium erythrogenes, tubercle bacillus, achromobacter fischeri, photobacterium phosphoreum.
Yeasts: candida utilis, candida, albicans, saccharomyces mandshuricus, saccharomyces cerevisiae, torulopsis utilis, paramecium caudatum.
Viruses: polyvirus, rotavirus

A leading microbiologist, professor Keevil (director of the Environmental Health Unit of the University of Southampton), shows in his latest research (presented within the framework of the II BIT Life Science Annual World Summit about antivirals) that copper actively inhibits Type-A influenza, and for this reason recommends that contact surfaces found in public areas be copper or tin.
The study is based on analysing the incubation of Type-A influenza on copper and stainless steel surfaces. The results show that after an incubation period of 24 hours, on the stainless steel 500,000 particles of the virus continued to be infectious, whereas in just 1 hour of incubation on a copper surface, 75% of the virus had been eradicated, and after 6 hours, only 500 particles remained active.
Professor Keevil states that “with the persistent threat of infection of the Type-A influenza viruses, such as H1N1, there is a real and urgent need to set into motion all the appropriate and effective measures with a proven antimicrobial effectiveness. Studies are constantly proving that the use of copper surfaces in key public spaces such as hospitals and food treatment areas can significantly restrict and reduce the spreading of diseases”.

Copper also acts as an agent against Legionnaire’s disease
The excellent thermal conductivity of copper and its capacity to withstand fast increases in temperature make COPPER a safe and healthy choice.
A copper installation provides greater safety, significantly reducing the risk of infection.
The study made in 2007 by Kiwa Water Research evaluates the effects of the temperature of water in the growth of Legionnaire’s disease in installations produced with different materials: copper, stainless steel, PVC-C and PEX-Al. The only material which at only 25ºC eliminated all the bacteria* was copper, whereas with the other materials, such as stainless steel, PVC-C and PEX it was eradicated at 60ºC. Moreover, inoculation in the pipes had to be repeated 5 times against just once for the other materials.
